SCHEDULE UPDATE:

Due to the time off the ice, Spring school will now finish on June 15th, with test days being held on June 16th & 17th.

There will be make-up sessions as follows for the extra Monday that was missed.
Monday June 18th, 4:00-5:50, Junior
Tuesday June 19th, 4:00-5:30, Senior
Wednesday June 20th, 4:00-5:00, Senior



NOTICE:

All skating sessions resumed, Tuesday, May 15, as per the regular schedule.



2012 Avalon Interclub

The Avalon Region Interclub competition was held March 17, 2012 at Feildian Gardens, St. John’s, hosted by Prince of Wales SC. Most Points was awarded to CPG Saint Pierre, and Most Improved went to Mount Pearl SC.

2012 Junior Provincials
The 2012 Skate Canada Newfoundland & Labrador Junior Provincials were held March 10th & 11th in Conception Bay South, hosted by the Conception Bay South SC. The Agnes Thistle Shield – Donated by the Prince of Wales SC in 2003 to honor the many years of volunteerism by club member Agnes Thistle was presented to the club accumulating the most points at the SCNL Junior Provincial Championship - Sparkling Blades SC.

2012 Lamontagne Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Championships

The 2012 Lamontagne Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Championships were held March 02-04, 2012 at Joe Byrne Memorial Arena, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL hosted by Sparkling Blades SC. Our region had over 40 skaters compete. The Pound Trophy went to the Avalon Region, and the Chapman Trophy (most points) was awarded to the Mount Pearl SC.

Special Olympics Winter Games

Congratulations to Paulo Paiement on his bronze medal at the 2012 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in St. Albert, Alberta. Paulo finished 2nd in the technical part of the competition and third in the freeskate.

Synergy compete at Nationals

Synergy from Prince of Wales SC competed at the national synchronized skating championships for the third straight year. They competed against twelve other teams from across Canada in the Intermediate category. They had a good first skate on Thursday and scored 21.26. They scored slightly lower on their second skate (40.51) for an overall score of 61.97, and finished 12th, their best finish of their three trips to Nationals.

2012 SCNL Provincial Synchronized Skating Championships

Twenty-eight teams, including 11 from the Avalon Region, were in Corner Brook this weekend competing in the 2012 Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Synchronized Skating Championships. This represented the largest entry since 2006, and involved over 400 skaters from across the province ranging in age from six years to adult.

Congratulations

Skate Canada Domestic Officials Committee has approved Tracy Hillyard’s promotion to Section Technical Specialist for Synchronized Skating as of February 3, 2012. Congratulations!

 


Off Season Schools

The Avalon Region off-season schools will take place in Spring April 28th to June 8th, and Fall September 1st to September 28. Applications for spring and fall are due March 15th.

Easter Seminar

The Avalon Region will holding its' annual Easter Seminar, April 9-11, 2012, at the Glacier. The head coach for this seminar will be Michelle Leigh, from the Mariposa Training Centre. Michelle will be accompanied by Paige Aistrop and Adriana DeSanctis. Early application deadline is March 1st, final application deadline is March 31st.
